Loud COMMERCIALS

19 January 2011 7,824 views 13 Comments

My husband and I are both retired so some days we watch quite a bit of TV, our problem is the commercials and how awfully loud they are. Both of us grab for the remote to turn it down or mute it. We did hear something on the news about the FCC going to take care of this problem. Could you give me some idea when this will be taken care of. Thanking you in advance. Donna

I’m glad to know I am not the only one being driven NUTS by the loud commericials! I have to keep the remote on hand so that I can turn down the commericals. Then, after 10-15 Commericals of various volumes, all loud, turn the show I am watching back up. It has begun to give me headaches. Also, the commericals that start out slightly louder and then continue to get so loud that I have to put it on mute.
IIf my comments do not get the point acoss, then let me share a lil story with you. About a month ago, I was dozing off on the couch. My cat was sleeping by my feet. Suddenly, a commerical came on that was SO LOUD, that both my cat and I jumped, being startled. Please, please, do something about these commercials. I beg you. Before we all ahve migrains andor, just refuse to watch tv, as I do sometimes. Because I am so worn out by the COMMERICALS LOUDNESS. Sometimes, it just isn’t worth the work, no matter how much I love a certain show. Also, I’m not kidding about the headaches. Watching televison is supposed to be enjoyable, not make one have to see a doctor to get headache medicine. thank you. Patti B.

We need more people like the two of you who will speak up
about this nonsense with these loud commercials. Did anyone else
hear that about the FCC going to do something about this or was I
dreaming. My husband is hard of hearing and the TV is loud anyway
and then those darn commercials come on and nearly deafen you.
    Please so something.

make a sort of flashmob ;) phone to the office each hour
and ask to make more loud commercials because your neighbours have
already bought some tools to ruin your house and you don’t want to
    offend their noble intentions…))

It is obvious from the comments above that I am not the
only one who is sick and tired of commercials being broadcast at a
significantly higher audio level than the programming. At every
commercial, which have become way too numerous, we grab the remote
and reduce the audio level two clicks on our cable box. This is
    absurd. Thank you

  • Justin R. said:

First of all, the audio levels set by your TV cannot be
changed by any broadcaster. What your experiencing is a change in
“perceivable loudness,” since the frequency ranges are higher in
commercials. There is no physical change in amplitude from whatever
your TV is set to, so the complaint about headaches is
physiologically impossible. The very purpose of commercials is to
get your attention; why anyone would even put the effort into
whining about it is beyond me. It’s like going to a cigar shop and
complaining about the smell. The loud commercials that caused you
and your cat to jump while dozing on the couch must have been truly
traumatizing, and your temptation to turn off the tv altogether
might not be the worst idea in the world. There are a lot of things
in this world to complain about (government corruption, genocide,
war, famine, etc.); I suggest you all choose wisely. Life is short
    (and, sometimes, loud).

We are all tired of the noise level of these darn commericals! It is clear to those of us that can still hear, that our government agencys are designed to just exist, i.e. Immigration-Federal Trade Commission-Transportation Agency-Education Agency-Energy, so on and so forth. All we can do is either mute the volume during these commericals or email with our displeasure all guilty parties: Capitol One, General Car Insurance, Bank Of America, Pizza Hut and so on. Not all advertisers use these primitive marketing practices and need to be appreciated, but there are very few. Foreign governments working against their own people, still do more than our governments’ lack of action. Slackers have taken over, just from shear numbers. Oh how the Mighty have fallen! How sad!

FCC has finally addressed the loud commercials. Effective a year from today all commercials’ volume should be the same as the programs they are being played on.

I hope the FCC took into consideration the loudness of the lead in music on some of the TV shows and not just the commercials.
If not they missed the boat. Two shows in particular “CSI MIAMI” and “CSI NEW YORK” will deafen you with their lead in music.
    Sincerely,
    Ron M.
